SEO - Web Optimization

Web Optimization for Search Engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN)

We're sure you've heard the term SEO used lots of times before, but you might not know what it means. So we'll start from the beginning.

The term SEO is short for Search Engine Optimization. This optimization process places a web site on the first page of results a search engine finds - this applies when keywords or predefined terms are entered in the search box.

Why do i need SEO?

Because over 75% of visitors find a site through search engines. Today, search engines have become indispensable for internet users. The reasons are clear: search engines (like Yahoo, Google or MSN) instantly provide the results which correspond with the user's necessities. But to show up in the results of the search engines, it takes more than that. This is because very few users know exactly what they are looking for, and even less of them are willing to start looking through hundreds of thousands or even millions of results returned by a search engine. Therefore, when the issue of Search Engine Optimization comes up, two things must be considered:

  • a web site must come up in the results from search engines/in searches with as general and competitive terms as possible.
  • a web site must come up in the first page of search engines.

If these two conditions are met, it is impossible for that respective web site's traffic to not increase.

What is Web Optimization (SEO)?

Search Engine Optimization (or simply SEO) is the process through which a website is "arranged" to be indexed the best possible way in search engines. The reason for any Search Engine Optimization is to at least bring the website on the first Google results page.

Why is it necessary for my website to be Web Optimized?

Your website must be optimized because search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN) bring traffic; traffic represents the people interested in your product; and the people interested in your products represent profit.
The promotion of a website or product on the Internet is obtained through:

  • Paid advertising on different specialized websites
  • Website optimization

The biggest advantage of the second method of online promotion - SEO - is that it must only be done once. To be on the first page of Google searches is the best promotion method.

Here's an example: lets say you have company that produces construction materials. Looking at the statistics on the first Google result for "construction materials", it can be noticed that this site has in average 200 visitors daily, as opposed to the first result on the second results page which has only 20-30 visitors daily.

The results on the first page are usually web sites that have been optimized for search engines.

What does the Search Engine Optimization process imply?

There are some optimization and promotion techniques which can not be addressed in detail; but basically, the web site optimization process consists of:

  • Keywords and content for each page of the website optimization
  • Signing up in quality directories for the increase of the page rank (PR)
  • Optimization of internal links
  • Creating a sitemap
  • Respecting the W3C standards

How long does it take for my website to actually be promoted online?

As opposed to creating a web page, the web site optimization process is a long one. It can last up to 1 year (implies a long term contract as well) and the first traffic increases for your site will be noticeable after 2 months.
